The thrill of riding on two wheels to places that are strictly limited to only essential travel was so unbelievable during this pandemic period. The enormous amount of effort in securing travel permits, health declarations, and other requirements of specific local governments long before the rides is unpredictable.
We believe though that as long as we live, we have all the chances in life and make the most of it.. and those rides during the pandemic period we call, the "Lockdown Rides".
Never worry about failures; worry about the Chances you will miss when you don't even try.
After 61x lockdown rides of over +17,000KM, covering 20 provinces in Luzon, and some in MIMAROPA (Marinduque and Mindoro), the real challenge is to conquer all the thirty-eight (38) provinces in the seven (7) regions in Luzon.
Why Philippine Loop?
Riding to Ilocos Norte then eastward to Quirino Province, all the way down to Baler, and back to Clark (clockwise loop) will surely cover some of the Philippine Loop checkpoints of Luzon Leg: Laoag City, Aparri, and Baler. Whereas, the 2 checkpoints (Subic and Alaminos) is easily reachable from my point of origin here in Clark, Pampanga. Thus, the remaining checkpoint in Atok, Benguet (the 2nd Highestpoint) was the only major concern during the planning period, and we're doing the Luzon Leg of the Philippine Loop Adventure Tour.
People should take their passion for whatever it is, all the way.. decide what it is that really interest you, and then take it as far as it can go..
Of course, we'd like to legitimized this very special 62nd Lockdown Rides, to make it fair to us, considering the distance to cover, the efforts, and the expenses entailed.
The more sensible way is to have a legit organization become part of the fun which later on will vouch for our little adventures.
The Philippine Loop Adventure Tour, sent us the free items (passport, 2x shirts, stickers - the vest and caps are optional) after registering, and provided the participant numbers to us,
Robert Francis T. Revil, #12202155
Thanks to the Admin Ms. Che Lopena who entertained our application despite the holiday season coming to an end within a few days.
The Philippine Loop Adventure Tour.
The Philippine Loop is a tour oriented project to promote the Philippines as a major sports and adventure destination in the Asia Pacific Region. Once registered, you are given 1 full year to complete your journey, passing checkpoints and ferry points, documenting your travel with pictures, videos, receipts, and everything that will appreciate the journey - that is exactly what we had been doing since the Lockdown Rides.
The Philippine Loop is endorsed by the Department of Tourism (DOT) and is allowed to use the tagline. (Image from adobomagazine.com)
The Philippine Loop Adventure Tour, Luzon Leg require participants to pass checkpoints in,
Subic, Zambales
Alaminos, Pangasinan
2nd Highest Point in Atok, Benguet
Laoag City, Ilocos Norte
Aparri, Cagayan
Baler, Aurora
In no particular order and in any day, as long as you show your passports in the pictures - which will vouch for the authenticity of your travel.
In the Viz/Min Leg, the only checkpoint is in General Santos City, and six (6) ferry ports to pass - it's not easy.
The Route.
Considering the loop direction, there are two (2) ways to take - the Clockwise Loop (Subic as checkpoint 1), and the Counter-Clockwise Loop (Baler as checkpoint 1).
Passing the 2nd Highestpoint in Atok can either be during your way up to Pagudpod via Naguilian, or during your way down from Aparri via Tabuk when in clockwise loop.
Deciding whether you will go clockwise (or counter-clockwise) will depend on your choice of place to wind down - either in Baler or in Subic.
If you will end the loop in Subic, you will go counter-clockwise by passing Baler first.
If you would prefer the atmosphere in Baler to chill down, you will go clockwise by passing Subic first.
In our case, we took the clockwise loop to make the final stop in Baler, as Baler is "a place that's always been fun to visit too often.."
Passion. Dedication. Endurance.
The Planning Stage.
We have secured five (5) S-PASS travel permits from Pangasinan, Benguet, Ilocos Norte, Cagayan, and Baler - just to make sure that passing cities were smooth during the pandemic.
The DOH VaxCert and booking confirmations of hotels and resorts that are allowed to operate under strict compliance are the requirement to submit in your S-PASS application.
To maximize the distance to cover in a day while safety is on the top priority, we estimated that our safety stops would be in,
Atok, Benguet (Sunrise Cabin Travelers Inn)
Saud Beach, Pagudpod, Ilocos Norte (Palm Grove Resort)
Tuguegarao, Cagayan (Victoria Grand Lodge)
Baler, Aurora (Pacific Waves Baler)
The balance of Speed and Safety.
This is a 5-day 4-nights adventures with half-day rest and recreations in Saud Beach, Pagudpod, Ilocos Norte, and in Sabang Bay, Baler, Aurora. Other than that, we were either eating, on 15 minutes safety stops, filling gas, or enjoying the riding in two wheels.
Our accommodation budget is in between Php1,000 to Php3,000 per stop, depending on the condition.
The fuel expenses can be estimated by checking the total kilometers to cover (in goggle), and the average gas mileage of my maxi scoot (around 20~22km per liter consumption).
There was also a very flexible plan for the food expenses considering we often had "brunch" (because it is ideal to take off first ride light) and "late lunch" (due to checking better places to eat while keeping on the move), we often find ourselves in "Karinderias" blending with the locals.
If you are always trying to be normal, you will never know how amazing you can be.
Every plan needs room to wiggle for adjustments, to meet the reality of uncertainty in travels without disrupting the final goal. So, we had the 3rd day as a buffer, wherein we can stay somewhere between Ilocos Norte and Isabela: to enjoy, relax, absorb unforeseen delays, and still make it to Baler on the 4th day - then leave for home on the 5th day.
DAY 1: 2021 December 26, Sunday
The Take Off.
The Philippine Loop requires the participants to record the starting odometer count (in KM), fill-in the gas at full tank, then submit a request for the Approval to Start Code (ASC), on the day of your start. You don't need to wait for the ASC because they will text to you the ASC anytime along the way.
We left home at about 0500HR to Shell, Northwalk Clark. We decided to start from Clark Shell Northwalk, inside the Clark Special Economic Zone.
The Northwalk, Clark SPEZ
Clark Shell Northwalk is ideal as starting point because of three (3) very important reasons. First, it is 24hrs operational and we had to leave early in the morning; Second, it has computerized receipts for proper recording and documentation; And lastly, it has restaurants that we plan for the kids to meet us there during our safe return, if God will's it..!
Yes, the same gas station that you have started (recorded your start odo meter) is your final goal to reach and go back, to complete the Luzon Leg (North Loop).
Official Start Time: 0530HR, 2021 December 26 (Day 1)
Starting Odo Reading: 16,787KM
Approval to Start Code (ASC): TBR
1st Checkpoint: Subic Bay, Zambales
The weather is excellent and our take off time is also perfectly based on plan.
Subic is an easy +84km, 1.5hrs smooth rides from Clark via SCTEX.
Unfortunately though, I was nearly issued a counter-flow ticket inside the Subic Freeport after I misjudge to enter a one-way road leading to the SBMA Beach. I just politely asked for consideration to the SBMA police, and for a quick selfie - unable to remove our helmets due to my shortcomings there.
The NDRRC checkpoint of Zambales is also at the minimum alert during that time - there were manned personnel from PNP PRO3 but never bothered to check unlike before, and let everyone pass the "once upon a time" very strict COVID checkpoint in all of Luzon.
Starting Odo Reading: 16,787KM
Running Odo Reading: 16,872KM (+84KM)
Running Time: 0700HR, 2021 December 26 (+1.5HRS)
ASC: TBR
Jhors Food Hub, San Marcelino, Zambales
Very near the market place in San Marcelino, Zambales, we decided to have our brunch at Jhors Food Hub, where we often stop at this "Karenderia" too many times, and enjoy the food at a very reasonable price.
We needed to make our second gas up in Jetti gas station in Lipay, Sta. Cruz, Zambales for 9.3L @ Php54.2/L for a total of Php504.06 full tank.
2nd Checkpoint: City of Alaminos, Pangasinan
The road to Alaminos was surprisingly very relaxing. Some of the known patch holes were already fixed, the rides turned out be very smooth at moderate speed, despite the sheer heat of the sun.
We arrived in Alaminos City at +199km under the heat of the sun at it's peak of that day.
In the busy street in front of the city hall, we only had a few minutes to take some selfie's, and to immediately clear the road, as our exhaustion was also setting in.
Starting Odo Reading: 16,787KM
Running Odo Reading: 17,071KM (+283KM)
Running Time: 1110HR, 2021 December 26 (+5.33HRS)

Rausa's Resto Ihawan and Kabingan, Alaminos, Pangasinan
Another favorite place that's hard to miss is in Rausa's Restaurant Ihawan at Kambingan - one of the best place to stop in Alaminos City - try the "boneless fried hito" and you will never forget it.
Bauang~Naguilian Road, La Union
From Alaminos City, we decided to take the Bauang~Naguilian Road passing Dagupan, to Atok, Benguet - considering the amount of time to spend in the checkpoint verification entering Baguio City via Marcos HW, and the heavy traffic due to the pouring of tourists from nearby provinces during the holidays,
We needed to make our third gas up of the day in Phoenix gas station in Calubay, Bauang, La Union for 8.039L @ Php60.6/L for a total of Php487.16 full tank.
Naguilian Road is perfect because it has a bypass road leading to La Trinidad, Benguet which saves a lot of time - and time is fast slipping away for us because riding in Halsema Highway in the pitch dark zigzag, and when it's raining is a nightmare.. don't try it..!
Sunrise Cabin Travelers Inn, Atok, Benguet
We reached Atok, Benguet already dark and to our great dismay - the Northern Blossom Flower Farm is fully booked. At past 1900HR time, the very cold air is freezing outside - and we may end up sleeping beside the road without a place to shelter from the highland's cold.
Fortunately for us, there were youngsters helped us out to find a place to stay - and suggested to check the Sunrise Cabin Travelers Inn, on top of a very stiff hill just in front of Northern Blossom Flower Farm. The local kids there was so helpful guiding me to trek up the hill catching heavily my breath.
The drama continues when the Cabin already had occupants though there was an available room reserved for a guest waiting to arrived. The family of Sir Renato Gachalian welcome us to our great surprise - while Ate Jonas is nowhere to be found..!
"Whatever happens", as I said to myself, "we're going sleep in that room even without the owner's permission - and settle the score tomorrow when I am already well rested".. haha
After a few minutes, Ate Jonas arrived and thanks be to God, she accepted and let us occupy the vacant room intended for a non-show up guest.. God is Great..!
After taking a surprise dinner (fried rice + hotdogs + fried chicken + hot coffee) heartily offered by our newly found friends, we found ourselves in a very cozy room with a relaxing bed that's too good to be true. Sir Renato even offered me some beer in cans to heat up, and a few of his interesting stories in life.. great man indeed..!

Starting Odo Reading: 16,787KM (Clark, Pampanga)
Start Time: 0530HR
Ending Odo Reading: 17,320KM (Atok, Benguet)
End Time: 1910HR
Day 1 Total Distance Covered: 532KM
Day 1 Total Time Consumed: 13.33HRS
DAY 2: 2021 December 27, Monday
Arriving in the dark yesterday, I was totally blown away by the view in the horizon outside the cabin. According to Ate Jonas, the infamous Mount Pulag can be seen when the heavy fog subsides. The landscape was so breathtaking..!
My Kymco Xciting S 400i is almost freezing outside overnight - yet as reliable as it is, a push in the start button made it alive and roaring against the cold air. Surprisingly though, the engine heat up took more time than usual - and proper operating temperature is a must before riding the beast - since it uses a special oil that maximize the engine protection from the abuse in riding long distances only in the right temperature.
In spite of the very cold air, the experience was so amazing for us. We enjoyed a lot outside for a few minutes - and savor the soothing smell of the very cold air bouncing from the mountains.
The day 2 starts with high spirit and full of enthusiasm - this day meant reaching one of the most elusive provinces in our Lockdown Rides, Ilocos Norte. However, we are not yet decide on where to pass between Bessang Pass and Quirino Skyline View Deck. Along the way, my plan is to consult with some locals, bikers, and drivers in the area. Their inputs are very accurate and helps a lot to make it more fun.
Covering 104KM from the last gas fill up yesterday, our gas is estimated to be 2/3 of the tank or between 7 to 8 liters left. This is enough to run for almost 200KM before empty tank. The advantage of riding less in gas is (of course) less in weight which is more nimble during tight turns and bends in Halsema Highway, from Atok to Cervantes. However, the thoughts of having full of gas is way better.. hahaha
Day 2 Start Time: 0830HR, 2021 December 27
Day 2 Starting Odo Reading: 17,320KM
Approval to Start Code (ASC): TBR
3rd Checkpoint: 2nd Highestpoint, Atok, Benguet
Formerly the Highestpoint in the Philippine Highway System, the 2nd Highestpoint in Atok, Benguet has the elevation of 7,398ft above the sea level (ASL).
A slightly 570feet lower than the New Highestpoint in Tinoc, Ifugao which just 54.5KM away. It was dethroned by the New Highestpoint (7,968feet ASL) when the road in Tinoc was completed in 2019, connecting Halsema Highway and Kiangan-Lamut Road, leading to Banaue in a shorter distance of travel.
There were lots of visitors and tourist in the view deck and it's safer not to approach too many people during this pandemic - so we opted to stay in the marker and stayed away from possible COVID infection - safer is way better..!
The 2nd Highestpoint is only 3KM away from Sunrise Cabin Travelers Inn but it was a bit raining and the fog was enormously thick down to almost zero visibility.
Day 2 Starting Odo Reading: 17,320KM
Day 2 Running Odo Reading: 17,323KM (+3KM)
Day 2 Running Time: 0847HR, 2021 December 27 (+17Mins)

After 33KM at 0955HR from the 2nd Highestpoint in Atok, our fourth gas up in the loop and the first gas up of Day 2 was in Sea Oil Abatan, Buguias, Benguet, with 6.78L @ Php50/L for a total of Php339.00 full tank.
Municipality of Mankayan, Benguet
Passing Mankayan @ 17,358KM 1008HR, this surprisingly busy 1st class municipality in the province of Benguet has a population of 35,953 people. The municipality is known as a mining town, being the location of several mines, including the Lepanto Consolidated Mining Company, and the intersection going to Cervantes was indeed secured with lots of policemen handling the traffic flow.
Municipality of Cervantes, Ilocos Sur
Reaching the Municipality of Cervantes at 17,393KM 1105HR - we were already in the province of Ilocos Sur..! It has a population of 16,573 people - and the official "Summer Capital of Ilocos Sur".
Cervantes has a relatively cooler climate than most of lowland Ilocos Sur due to its geographical location and proximity to Mountain Province and Benguet.
The municipality is home to the Bessang Pass Natural Monument.
Near the intersection in Cervantes, we had to take our "brunch" after leaving Atok, Benguet with only with a cup of hot coffee. So we took heavy meal of rice, pork lechon kawali, pork dinakdakan, and softdrinks there.
It was here in Cervantes that inputs given by locals is very important - on whether to take on Bessang Pass or take the Quirino Skyline View Deck.
The Quirino Skyline View Deck has better road condition (than in Bessang Pass), better landscapes and scenic views, and is known as the "haven for motorcycle riders and bikers" in the North.
The Quirino Skyline View Deck, Ilocos Sur
The Quirino Skyline View Deck (the "playground of the riders in the North") is located on the highest point of San Emilio~Quirino road of Ilocos Sur - 42KM from Cervantes (17,435KM) after almost 2 hours of bends and twisties.
The so-called "skyline view deck" along the national road going to Quirino, Ilocos Sur, offers the magnificent view of the huge Lagben River passing several villages below, astonishing mountain ranges, and strong winds that will surely make you smile.
Look at the smile of this lovely lady... hahaha
If you love lush green scenery, landscape, and geography, the Skyline View Deck is the perfect place to be.
We meet there some fellow riders that are also having fun - from Cagayan, they too will go up to Ilocos Region to go and loop back in there place of origin in Cagayan.
The Solid Lakwatsero Rider's Club of Cagayan surprisingly ride with us so smoothly in a convoy, all the way down to Mc Arthur Highway via Banayoyo.
They are good riders on bends in safe pacing.
Spotted in Narvacan, Ilocos Sur.
We were so surprised that some riders joined in the Philippine Loop Adventure Tour group chat were able to spot the Loopers like us.
Sir Melvin Floria, Jr. posted this pic that we were so stoked. I commented in his post, and thank Sir Melvin for the encounter - we were friends from there on.
We had full of joy upon exiting McArthur HW in Santiago, Ilocos Sur via Banayoyo. The road from here was another challenge - stretching and highspeed - up to Vigan City.
Quirino Bridge: Gateway to Vigan.
This bridge that spreads across the Abra River is a replacement bridge to the infamous "Quirino Bridge" that was built in honor of the 6th President of the Philippines, Elpidio Quirino. When you reach this bridge, you are just 16KM away from Vigan City.
We arrived in Vigan early in the afternoon, after the non-stop rides from Quirino Skyline for 85KM (17,520KM 1507HR) - exhausted from the twisties and bends in Quirino and shaking from the highspeed runs from Santiago, Ilocos Sur to Vigan.
The LFS in this APO seal gave me a sort of relief - this reminds me of the words from Frank Reed Horton about the Cardinal Rule of Friendship, and I quote,
"The motivating idea is to look for the good and try to do good to everyone regardless of who or what belief."
Being an APO since I was a sophomore in college, and to see how brothers and sisters strive hard in so many provinces, which leads all of us into prosperity, by believing that The 3 Guiding Principles will guide us to become a better person every day as long as we live.
The Elusive Vigan City.
An important coastal trading post during the Spanish Era, and now famously known for its well-preserved Spanish Colonial houses, historical Vigan tourist spots, and delicious food and delicacies, Vigan has a charm and inscribed as one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. We arrived in Vigan (after 17,536KM odo on 1549HR) way behind from our plan.
Vigan Cathedral or the Metropolitan Cathedral of the Conversion of St. Paul is so beautiful and magnificent, and has always been our favorite to visit and solemnly pray. This historical church serves as the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Nueva Segovia, and is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
To complete the Luzon Leg (North Loop) is never possible without the intersession and the blessings from God, which keeps us away from harm, and allow us to go and discover life and nature through Him.
Right in front of the Saint Paul Cathedral is the Plaza Salcedo, named after the Spanish conqueror, Juan de Salcedo who subdued the early native settlement in Vigan, in 1572. So unfortunate, the entire spectacle of water and lights dance was also subdued by the pandemic even after almost 2 years.
We were so happy reaching Vigan - one of the most elusive City in our Lockdown Rides bucket list.
Amazingly though, there were people like us, who look up to the Philippine Loopers when spotted in their area. I, too, was very excited seeing Loopers in Angeles City - that once, I escorted them slip away from the heavy traffic in Balibago, to scape and continue their journey - because I am a fan, myself.
We took the chance to have a meal - where else, my favorite Palabok~Chicken meal at Jollibee in Vigan.
During this time, we were constantly updating with our host in Saud Beach - which encouraged us to push to Pagudpod through the night. I was so tired and was contemplating to stay overnight in Vigan - but our reservation in the hotel in Saud Beach will be lost. So we push to Laoag City even knowing we will reach Laoag City and in Pagudpod in the pitch dark night. Immediately after some pics and vids, we left for Laoag City.
After passing the Ilocos Norte COVID checkpoint, we had our fifth gas up in the loop and the second gas up of Day 2 in Petron in Badoc, Ilocos Norte, with 8.97L @ Php65.39/L for a total of Php586.55 full tank.
4th Checkpoint: Laoag City, Ilocos Norte
My heart was pounding hard upon seeing the Welcome Arch of Laoag City - so pleasing.
I have visited Laoag City a few times already but this time is very special one - the challenge in entering Ilocos Norte during this pandemic period is beyond disbelief.
Laoag City was very beautiful even at night - and to our great surprise, there were lots of locals there having fun with the carol songs, sparkling Christmas lights, and food stalls at the middle of the Aurora Park.
From the seemingly sleeping Vigan City, Laoag City was surprisingly very lively and fun to stop.
The huge Christmas Tree in front of the Ilocos Norte Capitol Stage was no way to miss. We almost can not believe how beautiful it is seeing with our mouth wide open. Too bad, we can't stay there overnight to spend some longer times in the plaza - so we push again to up north.

Pudpod at Pagod Marating Lang ang Pagudpod.
There was the Pagudpod Municipal Arch towering high in the dark after passing the Pagudpod Bridge. It was already 2040HR and we were very exhausted.
It was dark in Pagudpod Arch that night, and we only waited for some vehicles to pass by just to make us visible in the pics with the Arch - and Saud Beach is just 9KM away.
We did appreciate Ms. Marietta Bull, the owner of Palm Grove Holiday Complex, for giving us the courage to keep moving all the way up to Saud Beach. It could have been a fatal mistake to stay overnight in Vigan - which will give us a very hard time later on the 3rd day catching up with the plan.
We stop at Jhiyah's Empanada Foodhouse for some BBQ's - and called Palm Grove for the room preparation and chilling of redhorse to enjoy the night there.
We arrived in Palm Grove Holiday Complex past 9pm under the pitch dark night on the inner roads entering Brgy. Saud.
We were calmly greeted by our host and very kind Ma'am Mayet with full of joy - again, thank you very much for the wonderful encouragement to make it up to Pagudpod on the 2nd day.
It was fun the whole 2nd day - from 2nd Highestpoint to Pagudpod - which is beyond imaginable after a 395KM of unthinkable twesties and bends, and the mind-blowing highspeed stretches in Ilocos Region.
At this point, we were totally drained and exhausted - a few cold strong beers will certainly make the full night sleep so satisfying..!

Saud Beach, Pagudpod, Ilocos Norte
Waking up in a bright sunny morning gave justice to the beautiful resort.
Today is a half-day rest for the "rider and the navigator" - so a bit of sunshine makes up for the dark and very cold rides last night.
Saud beach is calm and relaxing in its own way. I never thought that this beach would become special to me after several months, as we need to go back here again.
Local fishermen already unloaded most of their catch early in that morning.
They were busy fixing and preparing their nets for the next time around.
The Bangui Windmills Farm are seen from Saud Beach, and it's awesome even from 23KM awayby the road.
I just can't explain why.. but seeing this coconut tree in its form instantly became a challenge for me to climb. Funny thing though, it looks easy to reach the tip, where all I can manage is just barely in the middle.. bitch..!
Going back to Palm Groove Resort, which is just a few meters away from the beach, we had our breakfast already prepared.
This was a very pleasant half day stop to regain some strength from riding 927KM from Clark for 2 days. Dipping in the cold water is one of the best way to reunite the body and the mind.
Just before lunchtime, we had to say goodbye to the beautiful husband and wife masters of Palm Grove Resort - they were so accommodating and helping the locals to have a descent job.
The weather on that morning was so perfect that our rides must continue in spite of the very relaxing place to rest and enjoy in Saud Beach - because "the journey is what really matters in this Adventure Loop".
We recorded our data in the passports, and started the 3rd day with the much regained strength and enthusiasm to push ahead.

The Patapat Viaduct and Natural Park.
The rides to Patapat Viaduct was just a short 21KM with full of enthusiasm.
It was so amazing seeing the viaduct with this spectacular view of mountains and the sees.
You really cannot resist not to stop and take some photos there.
The Kalbario-Patapat Natural Park also has unbelievable view. I can easily imagine "Malakas" to hold both sides of the earth between his hands.
A stairway to the top is seen just beside a sprinkle of water naturally flowing down from the mountains, and it was cold there even in the middle of the day.
Spotted Again in Patapat, Ilocos Norte.
We were in the zigzag border of Ilocos Norte and Cagayan going east, and Sir Pong Chuala (and his beautiful wife Ma'am Luz) were going towards Ilocos Norte going west. Unfortunately, we did not recognized them at all during that encounter. If only we took off about 10 minutes late in Patapat Viaduct, we will meet each other again for the 2nd time.
The first time we met this amazing couple was in Nueva Ecija in 2018. We were on our way to our Ifugao~Mountain Province Loop for our 2018 Year-end Getaways, when we met them in a gas station somewhere in Nueva Ecija. They were (I think) going to Tinoc Highestpoint that day, and that was the only time we met each other personally - though, we became friends on Facebook since then - and they became one of our inspirations in getaways and rides as couples.
After 60KM of rides in about 2 hours passing the zigzag roads that has lot's of ongoing repair works, we needed to refill again at Petron Claveria, already in Cagayan, for 7.519L of gas @ Php64.9/L for a total of Php488.09 full tank.
A short 23KM more, we started to feel so hungry - explorers are never "choosy". Frank's n Burgers' footlong sandwiches in Centro 1, Sanchez Mira, Cagayan, was a very satisfying late lunch meal for the 3rd day on the road.
The main highway there was diverted to the bypass road due to main bridge under construction - but it's easy and no drama at all.
5th Checkpoint: Aparri, Cagayan: A promised has been fulfilled.
Seeing once again the infamous Arch of Aparri after 8 long months during our 28th Lockdown Rides in April of 2021, was so unthinkable - as I promised I will be back.
The feeling was so intense and full of inner happiness.
We were so delighted to see some few bikers resting near the arch. Little did we know, we are to meet people that are special to us and to the Philippine Loopers.
We met there Brod. Rouel Badilla, a fellow looper - and shared to us that the bikers are waiting for someone. After a few minutes, they were scores of bikers running fast toward us - with them was Ms. Jocelyn Momo, a lady biker that's completing her unbelievable Philippine Loop on a bike, all the way from Davao City..!
Truly, she inspired a lot of bikers wherever she may goes. She's being happily accommodated by families of bikers almost everywhere. She's an example of "persistency towards one's goal", a perfect example for the youth, and for every one, to always push under extremely limited condition.
On that day, we became friends to Brod Rouel and Ms. Jocelyn, from there on.

We reach Tuguegarao at 1822HR with very hungry stomachs, and still no place to stay for the night.
It took us about 2 hours roaming the city just to look for a place that's not too cheap nor too expensive. We stayed in Victoria Grand Lodge for a few hours of sleep - for tomorrow was a big push to one of the most exciting roads in Dipaculao..!

Reaching Santiago, Isabela under the extreme heat of the sun (and the rain coat that we wore which felt like a sauna inside while running on motorcycle), some tricycle drivers shared to us the best place to eat in Santiago, Isabela.
It is called Rufino's Dinner and inside it was surprisingly beautiful with full of trees and Kubos to enjoy their specialties for lunch and dinner.
The Rufino's Dinner is more like a resort than a resto - very near the Mabini Rotonda Park Circle on the left side, just in front of the Philippine Food Authority, in Santiago~Tuguegarao Road, that open's from 10:30AM to 9:00PM.
You can never go wrong with their specialty Friend Adobong Kambing (goat meat), chowpan rice, and pancit canton guisado - it wa all worth it to skip breakfast and settled in for heavy lunch in Tuguegarao.
Santiago City is a very progressive City in Isabela, with malls and businesses thriving the center.
Considering what's ahead of us (1st time in Quirino Province), our 1st fill for the 4th day and the 8th fill for this North Loop - in Shell Santiago, Isabela for 6.931L of gas @ Php60.6/L for a total of Php420.02 full tank.
First time in Quirino Province.
Soaked in the rain as soon as we entered the Quirino Province, it was all worth it, seeing and travelling for the first time in the smooth and flowing roads in the Province of Quirino. Maddela is a vivid first class municipality and the commercial growth center of the prime agro-industrial and eco-tourism destination of the North, Province of Quirino.
This huge rock in the middle of the road was so easy to spot (and yet, so easy to smack your face if you are a nasty rider), just before entering Quirino~Aurora border, going to Dipaculao, in Aurora.
Arriving at the Quirino~Aurora border, guarded by PNP PRO3 and supported by the elements of D Company of the 91st IB 7th ID of the Philippine Army stationed on top of a hill, we had to present the S-PASS approved for Baler.
The weather was nice there, the rain subsided, and the roads in Dipaculao is the most perfectly built smooth roads in the entire North Loop.
So nice riding there, we were able to cut the ride time to reach Baler just before dark.
The rocky view in Dipaculao is so stunningly beautiful. The landscape there is awesome. And there's a few places in the Philippines quite like it.
In fact (and again), it's one of our favorite places to ride hard and fast even for too many times - hindi nakaka-sawa..!
6th Checkpoint: Baler, Aurora
We felt very relief arriving in the Welcome Arch of Baler. How I wish this arch is improved to be as beautiful as the Arch of Aparri.
Baler town is just as the same as our last visit, exactly a month ago - in our 59th Lockdown Rides.
We were able to improve our time against the plan - arriving at Baler with still a bit of sun shine.
This is one special moment that I long to reach - arriving at Baler means so much - only another 200KM more and we're home by tomorrow.
This 3rd class municipality is located north-east of Manila via a mountain pass, and it is host to spectacular geographic formations and is situated on a vast plain at the south end of Baler Bay - and this place is so calm and cozy, it's so good to relax in Baler.
At the back of Museo de Baler, you can find Yaya's Tapsilogan - we find ourselves eating there too many times when in Baler.
Any food will do when you had travelled 331KM for more than 8 hours - garlic rice with pork lechon kawali is more than enough for us.
Pacific Waves Baler is waiting for us - the best place to stay in Baler when it comes to conveniences, huge parking spaces, polite staffs, internet connection, airconditioned room with hot shower, and "Duyans" outside the room that was so relaxing.

It is true that Sabang Beach is not the best beach if you are not a surfer.. but the people there, the ambience that the province would bring.., is so captivating..!
"People should take their passion for whatever it is, all the way.. decide what is that really interest you, then take it as far as it can go.." - James Goldstein
Yolly's Ihaw-Ihaw and Seafood Resto is one of our favorite place to eat in Baler. It's located in the main road Quezon Street corner Recto Street, very near the Mercury Drug.
Lot's of inihaw there, from pork liempo to tuna, to prawns, and squids, plus lot's of Filipino dishes, you name it and it's probably there. The meal for our heavy breakfast is Bulalo Baler style..!
There's a small chapel in Baler, called Dolorosa Chapel - wherein one can solemnly pray and say gratitude to the grace of God keeping for us safe - after 1,570KM of rides for the last 4 days, under every condition a long distance rider could imagine, we're still 100% perfectly safe.
Staying in Baler for a night and a few hours roaming around was a very satisfying experience - we will be back in Baler soon..!
Day 5 Start Time: 1207HR, 2021 December 30

It's only about +200KM left and we only have about 4 liters of fuel in the tank, so our 1st fill for the 5th day and the 9th fill for this North Loop is in Sea Oil, Baler for 8.32L of gas @ Php56.0/L for a total of Php465.92 full tank.
Exactly 50KM from Baler, you will reach Pantabangan's Canile River Reservation.
I feel so thankful to the people we met along the way, the people that prayed hard for our safety, and those that we continuously inspire and keep on inspiring us in return.
You have to prepare the checkpoint slip that was given upon entering the PNP check point in Dipaculao the other day - without this, you will be questioned as to how did you legally enter this part of Aurora - and could be a big trouble.
Passing the Canile Trail Bridge is one the very strict checkpoints in Luzon, similar to Zambales and Ilocos Region PNP checkpoints - just present your checkpoint slip and you will be fine.
A short stop in Petron after the checkpoint and you are already out of Aurora - you are at this point in Pantabangan~Canili~Basal~Baler Road, in Alfonso Castañeda, Nueva Vizcaya.
By this time, you have stunningly experienced the best twesties and bends Dipaculao, Baler, and up to this point in Rizal. Nueva Ecija - and perhaps one of my favorite roads to counter-steer.
The Touchdown Back.
The final 45KM rides after La Paz, Tarlac is via TPLEX Tarlac City Exit, from the Shrine of St. Francis of Assisi, to Shell Clark Northwalk. It was a no brainer to be safer rather than risking the entire journey on the roads via Concepcion, Tarlac.
Exiting SCTEX via Clark South is always been a joy every time we ride to the north. It is a major milestone in the rides that upon entering Clark, we are already 99% safe.
We had tears in our eyes upon stopping at the very same spot where we have left 5 days ago - this was so unbelievable.
Truly, there is nothing we can do successfully without the blessings and grace from God.
We arrived at exactly 1613HR with the final gas fill of 8.74L @ Php60.46/L for a total of Php528.42 full tank.
We were greeted by one of our Airsoft friend, Sir William Mills, one of the best Airsoft heavy gunner of Semper Fi, a fellow rider, and recently a moto vlogger. Please check and support his moto vlogs @ WG Rider Moto Vlog.
The kids and my mom also came over to celebrate with us the successful North Loop Rides.
Lot's of foods offered by King's Craft Beers in Clark Northwalk.
Japanese ramen to heat up our utterly shaking stomachs were ordered by Kuya Jef.
Pulutan's from the rags to the riches was also presented for us.
Of course, the meal would not be completed with some specialties by the Chef.
A toast of victory with the black beers was offered before calling it "a night"..!
Consuming everything with no waste at all.
We visited the Jesus the Eternal Word Parish, as always, to say our prayers to God for His grace in keeping us safe from even a single scratch.
Arriving home, the tire marks showed battle scars of the grueling journey.
We were unknowingly riding at the edge of the tires in zigzags of Naguilian, Halsema Highway, Cervantes, Quirino Skyline, Ilocos Norte, Cagayan, Quirino Province, Dipaculao, Pantabangan, and down to Rizal in Nueva Ecija.
The Kymco Xciting S 400i with more than +18,000KM odo never let us down - not even a single drama. This is a very reliable maxi-scooter for the right rider. Consider pampering it with Liqui Moly 10W60 Street Race engine oil, Castrol 80W90 gear oil, NGK Laser Iridium sparkplug, and Michelin rubbers, and it will "excite you way more than your expectations".

Total Time Consumed: 47.76HRS (Runtime)
Total Gas Consumption: 73.46L (Php4,347.99)
In the 47.76HRS of run-time, the journey was a mixed of some quick brunch and early dinners along the way, spending more times in taking photos and selfies, laughter's and chatting in the blue tooth comms, and (sometimes) blaming each other along the way - and those were the quality time that makes the loop more unforgettable and fun for us..!
The Viz/Min Leg. The South Loop.
As of this time, we have gathered enough experience in the North Loop to push with the Viz/Min Leg (South Loop) within this year. There are a lot of things to consider, adjustments to make, and physical preparations to make it take into account within our expectations.
The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comforts and conveniences, but when he stands at times of challenges and difficulties.
The Philippine Loop Adventure Tour is not for everyone to take at the same time. Each person have different priorities and condition in life, which will dictate whether the call to loop and explore (or not) will come to you, and you will take it as a personal challenge.
I must admit, it is not easy although it is not impossible to achieve - depending on how you see it, in your own right time and moment.
We appreciate very much Ms. Che Lopena (of Philippine Loop Adventure Tour), brother Rouel Badilla for the warm welcome in Aparri, Ms. Jocelyn Momo for inspiring many people, Ate Mayet Bull for the positive encouragement to push us up to Pagudpod, Sir William Mills for the home-coming welcome, Sir Pong Chuala and his wife for always inspiring us, Sir Melvin Floria, Jr. for spotting us like celebrities (joke!), Sir Renato Gachalian and family for the kindest of heart (if not to this family, we will sleep beside the road in Halsema HW under extreme cold and rain), to Solid Lakwatsero Rider's Club of Cagayan, and to our kids and my mother for supporting us all the time.
We appreciate very much the support and prayers of too many people, friends, and family.
Byahe lang..!
